MEdieval times in kinder 4: Some math centers

Q MEDIEVAL PUZLES

The puzzles are from 3 dinosaurs

Q
MEDIEVAL SEQUENCING: using 2 or 3 objects and also filling the gaps in sequences I made.

Q ORAL PROBLEMS: Using medieval characters cards we turned the oral problems into stories, where we had to add or take out objects from our boards depending on what the story was saying.
You are a knight and you have three swords and a helmet, your squire comes along and asks you for one of your swords, how many swords and helmets have you got know”

math centers in kinder 4

These are some of the activities we have been doing in the math center these months. Some activities involved the kids to explore the materials while others are directed by the teacher.

- SHAPES AND SORTING
WE ARE PRETTY GOOD AT SORTING MANIPULATIVES BY COLORS OR QUALITIES.

We are also very good at finding shapes around the classroom.

- DECOMPOSING NUMBERS USING NUMICON
Numicon is a fantastic way to understand numbers. Kids can work on numbers in a very intuitive way.

THE NUMBER LINE
Right now kids are very good at counting, but we need to start paying atention to the place numbers have in the line.

- NUMBER QUANTITY

ORAL PROBLEMS USING POPSICLE STICKS
each child has a set of 10 sticks to work with, we make pairs, order them, count them, and use them as manipulatives to solve oral problems.

MATH CENTER

In the math center we have been working mainly on sorting.

We did some activities with the whole class and then we continued exploring at the center:

We gave the kids a tray with cars, markers, bottons and animals and we asked them to take the ones that were the same.

Their first option was obviously putting together cars, markers, buttons and animals.

We asked them if they could see something similar in a car a marker and a button, some of them realized they were the same color. So we sorted things by color.

and... what about the animals? they realized that some animals lived in the farm and others were wild.

We moved on to analizing shapes, when doing this the first similarity they saw was color, the common shapes here were more confusing for them.

then they started noticing the shapes and later on the sizes.

At the math center, kids worked with buttons, they decided to sort them by color and then i asked them to find the big and small ones:

the kids also explored the numicon shapes and they discover lots of things...

MEDIEVAL MATH: LOGIC GAMES

Castle Logix are fantastic, kids loved them. They are challenging. The books have different levels which makes it fantastic to fit all the kids needs:
